Abstract:

The study aim was to analyze time trends in female mortality for assault in Brazil, regions and states2002 to 2012. The states of mortality rates were analyzed by linear regression, stratified by region, tertiles Gini Index and Human Development Index (HDI). The female mortality rate trend for assault was stable in the country, with differences between states and regions. The Midwest had the highest mortality rates and stagnation trend. There was an increase tendency in the North, Northeast and South and decreased in the Southeast. The states of the tertile with the highest HDI presented downward trend and stabilization in the 1st and 2nd tertiles. There was increased mortality rate in states with greater social inequality. The results show different trends in female mortality rate for assault despite the country stabilization, pointing to the need for appropriate social policies the specificities of states and regions.
