Abstract:

Occupational stress has become a major cause of illness, establishing itself as a major risk to the psychosocial well-being of workers. In this context, the objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of occupational stress on bank workers Vitória/ES and its association with sociodemographic variables and job characteristics. A cross-sectional study involving 525 bank employees was conducted. Occupational stress was assessed using the short version of the Job Stress Scale. The authors conducted a multivariate analysis to assess the association between the Karasek quadrants and independent variables. It was found that most of the bank belonged to the passive job quadrant (34.4%, n=179) quadrant considered intermediate risk for occupational stress. Considered the category of low demand as standard, were associated with increased risk of stress, have low education (odds 3.69, CI 1.64 to 8.28), working with direct services to the external public (odds 2.55, CI 1.36 to 4.77), working in the bank for more than five years (odds 3.32, CI 1.89 to 5.81), have daily workload of 6 hours work (odds 2.72, IC 1 , 27 to 5.81), and mostly have low social support (odds 2.57, CI 1.45 to 4.56).
