Abstract:
In Argentina since 2013 there has been National Law 26.862 on comprehensive access to medically assisted reproduction procedures and techniques. This does not include surrogacy procedures and the absence of specific regulation moves the practices to a paralegal scenario. In this context, planned parenthood by male couples through the surrogacy is carried out through actions that convey demands for access rights and active State policies. For these couples, the argument is that surrogacy represents the only option to have a child with a genetic link to at least one of the two parents and to be able to recognize both filiatory links.This work is the result of field work in progress with parentsProvince of Buenos Aires who are carrying out this practice in Argentina. Based on in-depth interviews, we try to reconstruct personal experiences and analyze the meanings that the narratives construct regarding their parenting, the biological connections in the creation or definition of family relationships, and we analyze the importance of biogenetics in the construction and maintenance of affiliations.
