Abstract:

The study analyzes the progress and challenges of the National Policy for Health Promotion (PNPS) implementation in relation to its priority agendas and points out critical aspects for its sustainability in times of crisis. This is a narrative review study, covering published studies and institutional documentation. The PNPS was approved in 2006 and revised in 2014 and emphasizes the importance of the determinants and social determinants of health in the health-disease process and has as presuppositions the intersectoriality and the creation of networks of co-responsibility that seek to improve the quality of life. Progress has been made in the priorities highlighted in the PNPS, in programs and actions in the face of the use of tobacco and its derivatives; adequate and healthy food; physical activity practices; promotion of sustainable development; coping with abusive use of alcohol and other drugs; promoting safe and sustainable mobility; and the promotion of a culture of peace and human rights. However, the progress of the PNPS presented may be seriously threatened by the serious political, economic and institutional crisis that hit the country, the budget cuts for the next 20 years, with Constitutional Amendment, drawing a future scenario of many uncertainties.
