Abstract:

The study analyzed the consumption of non-standard medicines in indigenous health, emphasizing the rationality of pharmacotherapy, through a cross-sectional study of secondary data2018 and 2019 in the Special Sanitary District of Indigenous Health Minas Gerais/Espírito Santo. These medicines were classified by the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification. Non-parametric tests were employed to compare the origin of prescription and the form of acquisition, assessing access to medicines. Rationality was verified through the consumption profile and the therapeutic option in the list of standardized medicines. There were 104,928 pharmaceutical presentations consumed, 66,967 (66%) belonging to the alimentary tract and metabolism; 17,705 (17%) to the nervous system; 12,961 (12%) to the cardiovascular system. As for the most consumed medicines by region, 171 (90%) out of 190 had a therapeutic option. The prescriptions were morethe SUS. Differences were found in the way the medicines were acquired. The study pointed to an important consumption of non-standardized medicines, and there may be failures in therapeutic rationality. In indigenous health, ethnocultural and social issues are challenges to the access to medicines with rational use.
