Abstract:

The relations between health and environment have been subject of great interest to researchers in recent decades, with information being the phenomenon that allows the union between these two domains. The purpose of this article is to examine how the National Health Conferences’ recommendations address the issue of environment and information and how it articulate these two domains with health. This is a documentary qualitative research study. The documents that formed the corpus of this research were the official reports of the National Health Conferences, from the first (1943) to the fourteenth (2011). The results show that environmental issues have always been present, especially after the VIII Conference, in 1986, from which there is a growing expansion of discussions on the topic. The issues health and environment, discussed in the XII and XIII, demonstrate clear progress towards defining its relation to life quality. The "Health information" was referenced in almost all Conferences, as fundamental, earning the status of priority in the XI Conference. The propositions presented in Conferences seem to influence the establishment of public policies on the environment and information, given that they have included several of the propositions presented and discussed at the Conferences.
