Abstract:

The article analyzes mortality trends due to cerebrovascular disease (CBVD) in Brazil, regions and federation units,2000 to 2019, and its correlation with the municipal human development index (MHDI) and social vulnerability index (SVI). It has an ecological design and describes a time series of deaths. The codes for DCBV, according to ICD-10, were divided into three groups: ischemic (CBVDI), hemorrhagic (CBVDH) and unspecified (CBVDU). The Southeast had the highest total number of deaths. In the stratified analysis, a general decreasing trend was observed in Brazil for CBVDH and CBVDU with an increase in the North and Northeast in CBVDI and CBVDH. For the MHDI, there was a strong positive correlation between AAPC (annual percentage change of the total period) and mortality trends rate for CBVDH40 years of age and for CBVDI in those over 80 years of age. There was no correlation between the AAPC of the SVI and mortality trends rate between the disease groups. It is concluded that the trend towards an increase in deathsCBVDI and CBVDH in the North and Northeast is possibly related to economic and social inequality in these regions. The decrease in CBVDU seems to reflect an increase in CBVDI, which could mean an improvement in mortality registrations.
