ABSTRACT
In order to describe of prescription and nonprescription drugs use, in pregnant users of the Unique System of Health (SUS), a descriptive study comprising a sample of pregnant was carried out in Santa Rosa city, RS. Data were collected by structured interview and consult of notes of pregnant in the prenatal period. The prevalence of drug utilization was 90%, the average of the used drugs was 4.1 per pregnant, where 83.6% were prescribed and 16.4% were self-medication. Of this total, 17.6% of the drugs were included in fetal risk category C. The use of drugs in the pregnancy is a frequent event and most of the pregnant use one or more prescription and nonprescription drugs during pregnancy. These data suggest the need for intervention measures aimed to rational drug use during pregnancy.
