The aim of this study was to estimate calibrated values for dietary data obtained by Food Frequency Questionnaire for Adolescents and illustrate the effect of this approach in food consumption data. Adolescents were assessed on two occasions, with the average interval of twelve months. In 2004, 393 adolescents participated and 289 were reassessed in 2005. Dietary data obtained by Food Frequency Questionnaire for Adolescents (FFQA) were calibrated using the regression coefficients estimated from the average of two 24-hour recalls (24HR) of subsample. The calibrated values were similar to the reference measurement in a subsample. In 2004 and 2005 we did observe significant difference between the average consumption of FFQA before and after calibration for all nutrients. Means intake were statistically different for all nutrients at baseline and follow-up before and after calibration. Calibrated data increased the proportion of schoolchildren who had fiber intake below the recommended. Therefore, it appears that calibrated data can be used to obtain adjusted associations due to reclassification of subjects within the categories determined the displacement of individuals within predetermined categories.DESCRIPTORS: Adolescent; Bias; Diet; Linear regression; Public Health.
