Abstract:

The objective of this study is to evaluate homicide rates against women residing in Brazil, according to federative units and race/color, in the period2016 to 2020. This is an ecological study of temporal trends. Multiple analysis was performed using a regression model for longitudinal data. During this period, 20,405 homicides of women occurred in Brazil and the standardized rates showed that black women (6.1/100,000) had the highest rates, compared to white women (3.4/100,000). Brazil showed a drop of 25.2%2016 to 2020. The homicide rate ranged4.7 deaths per 100,000 women in 2016 to 3.5 in 2020, but a decreasing and statistically significant trend was observed in the rates of women black and white. The variables HDI, illiteracy rate and proportion of ill-defined causes showed an inverse and statistically significant relationship with female homicide rates. In 2019 and 2020, there was a decrease in the average homicide rate compared to 2016. Despite the decrease in the temporal evolution of rates for blacks and whites, there were important racial differences in homicides of women, with worse results for black women.
