Abstract:

the supply of supplies for the treatment of ophidian accidents, as well as the training of the care team should be oriented according to the frequency and risks by geographic alareas. Objective: To analyze the trend of the incidence rate of snake bites in the Brazilian biomes between 2003 and 2012. Method: Ecological study of the incidence rate of snake bites in Bothrops, Crotalus, Lachesis and Micrurus for the Brazilian biomes, in the period of 2003-2012, through a regression of Prais-Winsten. Results: The number of accidents in creased26,082 in 2003 to 27,870 in 2012, with increased demand for inputs. The trend analysis of the incidence rate showed a steady trend, except for the genus Crotalus with an upward trend in the Brazilian aggregate. Upward trend was verified in the Cerrado for the genus Crotalus, Lachesis and Micrurus, in the Pampa also for Crotalus, in the Caatinga for the genus Lachesisand in theAtlantic Forest for the genus Micrurus. Conclusion: The steady trend observed for ophidian accidents in Brazilis due to the fact that most of these (87%) are caused by snakes of the Bothrops genus. However, there is an increase drisk of accidents with snakes of the genus Crotalus, Lachesis and Micrurus, as well as the particularities according to biomes.
