Abstract:

We studied the influence of Self-Assessment for Improving Access and Quality (AMAQ) on specialized procedures in the Centers of Dental Specialties (CDS). Data were obtainedthe 900 CDS that undergone external evaluation of the Program for Improving Access and Quality (PMAQ-CEO) andthe Outpatient Information System (SIA-SUS). The dependent variable was the monthly average dental procedures (proc/mon) in the CDS performed in three periods: 1) October 2012 to September 2013; 2) October 2013 to September 2014, and 3) October 2014 to September 2015. The main independent variable was the use of AMAQ-CDS, which occurred during the second period. Type of CDS, dentists workload, strategies to reduce missing appointments, referral support, clinical guidelines and coverage of Primary Health Care were used as covariates. Multiple linear regression models were run to estimate adjusted differences. The CDS that used AMAQ-CDS had, respectively, a mean in the first, second and third period of 515,0 proc/mon (Standard Deviation, SD +388,5), 575,5 proc/mon (SD +432,4), and 519,9 proc/mon (SD +373,1).The CDS that used AMAQ-CDS had a higher average than those that did not use, with an adjusted difference of 32,7 proc/mon (CI95% 91.9: -26.5), 64,7 proc/mon (CI95% 117,5: 11,9) e 27,7 proc/mon (CI95% 117,5: -11,9) for the first, second and third periods, respectively. The use of AMAQ-CEO
