ABSTRACTInternments Sensible to Primary Health Care constitute a new indicator, used in some countries, to measure indirectly the functioning and the capability of resolution of the Primary Health Care. In Brazil, the Brazilian List of Diagnosis Sensible to Primary Health Care was recently released and must be used as an instrument of evaluation of the Primary Health Care and or the utilization of health service. Thus, this study has the objective: of presenting the panorama of the internments sensible to primary health care in Sao Paulo State. Methodology: An ecological descriptive study was carried out within the period of 2000 to 2007. The data were generated by the municipality of residence of the patient and aggregated by the Regional Health Departments. The Information System of the Health Ministry and the populational estimative of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was used to obtain the data of those patients. Results: The internments sensible to primary health in the state follow a tendency of reduction suggesting relation to the acceptance of the Family Health Program. By dissociating the data we can observe the reduction of internments by diabetes and we were called the attention to the increase of internment by diseases related to prenatal and birth. Considering the recent publication of the Brazilian list of diagnosis, studies applying the Brazilian list could be of great value for the administrators involved with primary health care, and could work as a measurer of its quality contributing to the evaluation of the health policies in Brazil.
