Abstract:

This study aimed to describe the prevalence of leprosy and to verify the factors associated with multibacillary clinical forms in a scenario of the Family Health Strategy that is a priority for the control and surveillance of the disease in northeastern Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study, which used datathe Notifiable Diseases Information System related to leprosy cases notified in Imperatriz (MA) between 2008 and 2017. Prevalence was determined every year and for the period. To associate the variables and the multibacillary clinical forms, Poisson regression models were used, with a significance level of 5%. Of the 2,476 leprosy cases analyzed, the majority referred to multibacillary clinical forms. The prevalence varied between 15.6 and 7.8/10 thousand inhabitants, with high and very high levels of endemicity. The variables male gender, age groups between 30 and 59 years and ≥60 years, education
