Abstract:

This study aims to estimate the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) in university students, based on the analysis of the correlation between the use of the internet and the use of coping strategies in the face of social isolation in the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a cross-sectional, quantitative study, with a non-probabilistic sample, made up of 275 students. Data collection was done online, using the Self-Report Questionnaire, the Problematic Internet Use Scale and the Inventory of Ways of Coping Questionnaire as instruments. The data analysis was descriptive and inferential, and multiple linear regression analysis was performed. The investigated population had a prevalence of CMD of 58.5%, which was positively correlated with the frequency of Internet use, and with the use of avoidant coping strategies, based on confrontation and oriented to the search for social support and acceptance of responsibility (p
