Abstract:

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between sociodemographic factors and the impact of Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) of brazilian pregnant women. These are two sectional observational epidemiological studies with 1.777 pregnant women. A structured, pre-tested questionnaire collected the sociodemographic variables and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) evaluated the impact of oral health on the quality of life. Statistical analyses using the chi-square and multiple logistic regression tests were performed, both with significance levels of 5%. The \"psychological discomfort\" dimension was the only difference between the mothers of the RMGV and MRSM (p = 0.042). The following variables were associated with the impact of OHRQoL: residing in the RMGV (OR = 1.69; CI 95% 1.16-2.47); have little schooling (OR = 1.80; CI 95% 1.03-3.18) and to perform dental consultation during pregnancy (OR = 2.15; CI 95% 1.50-3.07). Socio-demographic factors should be considered in the planning of oral health actions of pregnant women, as they influence the impact of OHRQoL.
