Abstract:

The authors analyze pharmaceutical services and access to medicines in Brazil, within the principle of integrality, one of the main issues present during the 30 years of SUS, our National Health System. Triggered by its inclusion on the Health Reform movement, ed themes were addressed, including the reorientation of pharmaceutical servces, the issue of human resources, the essential medicines concept, rational use of medicines, technological development and industrial production and ethical regulation. With strong regulatory components and having the National Medicines Policy as a structural axis, the three decades of the health system are confronted both in advances and steps backwards, considering the national complexity, political, economic and social changes with impacts on public policies and access to medicines, issue that is of upmost importance even in the richest world economies as discussed on Global Health global forums. Important progress is highlighted, as the current fiscal regimen is compromising the social areas.
