Abstract:

Planned Home Birth (PHB) has grown in Brazil, especially in large urban cities, in response to the increasing dissatisfaction among women with the current obstetric system. International evidence demonstrate the PHB safety, but Brazil still lacks of huge production about the theme. Thus, this study aimed to review the national bibliographic production about PHB between the years 2008 and 2018, in order to compile data related to PHB in Brazil. A total of 18 studies were included in this review, being subdivided into the following categories: \"Maternal and neonatal outcomes of the PHB\", \"Feelings, motivation and characteristics profiles associated with the choice of PHB\", \"Professional’s Perception about PHB\" and \"The PHB theoretical approach\". It was concluded that the PHB has grown among privileged portions of the Brazilian population, representing an important way of women\'s autonomy exercise as opposed to the current obstetric model, presenting as a safe alternative of place of birth, with a high level of satisfaction for women and families. However, it presents as a limited option, since the PHB is not offered by SUS, still inaccessible to the majority of women in the country.
