Abstract:

There are many agents involved in making health care a reality. With this variety of agents and their relationships, an intertwined network of power relations is woven that interferes with how this care is produced. The study aimed to analyze how different capitals are articulated to determine power relations in the work of nurses and other health professionals. This is exploratory-descriptive research, with a qualitative approach. Collection took place in a city in the interior of Ceará, Brazil, in a Reference Hospital and in two Basic Health Units, between February and December 2020, through semi-structured interviews. Nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, and dentists were interviewed, a total of 33 professionals. The findings were analyzed based on Pierre Bourdieu's Habitus Theory. The findings reveal that power relations interfere in the practice of professionals, so that these relationships are influenced by capitals such as knowledge, ways of communicating, resolution, gender and friendship relationships, configuring elements that feed relationships of power in the health field.
