Abstract:

This article is an offshoot of my Doctoral Thesis defended at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. It aims to approach the historical dissociation between mental health and public health more widely as well as practices that proposes its integration, examining the scientific background that produce this dissociation as well as international and national documents in health that relate the need for integration. Analysed from Rose the documents and interviews with health professionals on the practices of matrix support and interconsultation formulated by the Ministry of Health and by the Porto Alegre/RS Municipal Health Secretary, which seek to relate mental health with Primary Health Care. These documents and practices propose to the health professionals new subjectivation. They emphasize the interdisciplinarity and no hierarchy of services and knowledge, and are in line with the form of contemporary social organization, which proposes to take horizontal and democratic decisions, rather than imposed by a vertical authority typical of patriarchal pattern and biomedical model.
