Abstract:

The aim of this study is to analyze the register of prevention actions of childhood morbidity using vaccination information, iron supplement and vitamin A provided in the child’s health card. It is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach performed in Family Health Units in João Pessoa-Paraiba, with sampling for convenience, totaling 116 cards. The data was collectedobserving the cards and analyzed as simple statistical. The highest percentage of children had the vaccination cards up to date (92.2%) and those that did not were between 6 and 12 month old. In 78.9% of the cards both iron supplement and vitamin A were not recorded. In others, there was only record of one the supplements being administrated. The vaccination status of children in the first year of life is satisfactory, but discrepancies were observed in the recordings of the administration of iron and vitamin A, which complicates the monitoring and follow-up carried out by the child health care professional. It is hoped that this study may contribute to subsidizing discussions and strategies aimed at improving the monitoring and recording of micronutrients in children’s health care cards.
