Abstract:

This paper analyzes the spatial pattern of tuberculosis in the period 2005-2008 identifying relevant socioeconomic variables for the occurrence of the disease through spatial statistical models. It is an ecological study conducted in Rio de Janeiro with new cases. Were used the census tract as the unit of analysis. Incidence rates were calculated and used Bayesian Local Empirical method. Spatial autocorrelation was found with Moran Index and LISA. Using Spearman‘s test, the independent variables with correlation statistically significant at the 5% were used in the models. In the classical multivariate regression model (OLS), variables proportion with income between 1 and 2 minimum salary, illiterate proportion, proportion of households with people living alone and average income of the responsible were best fitted model. These variables were included in the Spatial Lag and Spatial Error models and the results compared. The first model showed the best parameters: R2 = 0.3215, Log Likelihood = -9228, AIC = 18468 and SBC = 18512. Statistical methods showed to be efficient in identifying spatial patterns and defining determinants of disease giving a view of the heterogeneity in space, enabling a more targeted actions to specific populations.
