Abstract:

The study investigated the spatial pattern of maxillofacial injury due to aggression with a firearm in teenagers and young adults from the victims residence and analyzed the comparison of income differentials these areas. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with data from victims met in three hospitals in urgency and emergency of Belo Horizonte-Brazil from January 2008 to December 2010. It was used as a marker of exposure to violence victims addresses, which have been georeferenced by geocoding. To detect trends in each of the groups (teenagers and young adults) were carried out and Kernel maps, Ripley´s K Function while the interaction between the two groups was verified through the K12 Function. Results: 218 victims of aggression were identified with firearm 70.6% being related to young adults. Households were distributed on an aggregate basis in the urban space with a confidence level of 99% and similar spatial aggregation levels. Households clusters converged on 7 slums or neighboring regions with higher income population revealing spread of events. Hotspots focused on slums with a history of crimes linked to drug trafficking. The incorporation of space in the dynamics of events showed that the economic condition alone did not limit victimization.
