Abstract:

Considering the Brazilian Curricular Lines of 2002, some Faculties of Pharmacy established the Rural Internship Program (RI) as a way of introduction of pharmaceutical education planned for the Unified Health System (SUS), and to make possible the interaction of the students with pharmacist practice. This work describes the knowledge of students registered in RI at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Federal University of Minas Gerais about SUS and pharmaceutical service inside the System. The information acquired was taken by Focal Groups (FG), one happening before and the other after the field experience. Eight students participated on the FG, before and after. The script of the FG had: conceptions, professional activity in SUS and the expectation of the students about the RI. The data process was done by content analysis. It was observed that in both moments the students were unaware about the concepts and principles of SUS. However, words like “access”, “universal right” and “health promotion” had been said by the students after the Program. The data analysis pointed low knowledge of the students about SUS and the professional participation in it. The term pharmaceutical assistance was not mentioned at any moment. The students considered the RI a motivating program for future performance in SUS.
