Abstract:

This study aims at describing an educational experience of seafood, conducted by the fishing community in Ilha do Paty, São Francisco do Conde, in a context of actions to promote health and food safety. This is an intervention study with activity planning by a multidisciplinary team, in association with the community: survey of topics of interest, awareness, monitoring the shellfisherwomen work routine, teaching of high quality practice in the processing of seafood and group conversation. The methodologies included exposure through dialogue, group dynamics, workshops, theater, work with images, directed activities with the distribution of educational materials. Participants review was requested at the end of the course, regarding as different items. Overall there was satisfaction of the audience for most indicators, which may relate to both use of audiovisual resources and strategies that allowed the exchange of experiences as the recognition of the importance of education by the target audience. However, a need of a more particular work was noticed. The experiment demonstrates the potential of developing educational activities with the fishing communities, with results that contribute to the strengthening of local supply food safety and workers health.
