Abstract:

Sexual initiation is a gradual process of experimentation and learning the cultural repertoire about gender, reproduction, contraception, sexual violence, among other themes that involve youth sociability. Contrary to the perspective of sexual abstinence as a panacea for reducing “early pregnancy” in Brazil, an approach to reproductive justice is postulated as a framework to face health inequities with regard to family planning. The article discusses the challenges imposed to public health policies to support adolescents and young people in their sexual and reproductive trajectories, privileging the dimension of intersectionality. The focus is on public institutional initiatives that offer long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in the last decade. From a methodological point of view, such reflection is based on empirical material derivedanthropological documentary research on contraceptive technologies, in order to problematize what we call “ive offer” of these devices and their discriminatory and stigmatizing bias. The defense of expanding the contraceptive offer in SUS, with universal access for all women to LARC, drifts awaywhat we designate as “contraceptive coercion” in certain social groups.
