Abstract:
This study analyzes the association of violence against women during pregnancy according to the socioeconomic and behavioral characteristics of the intimate partner. Analytical cross-sectional study in a maternity hospital in the city of Espírito Santo with 327 puerperal women, data were collected on the characteristics of the intimate partner. The World Health Organization instrument was used to track Intimate Partner Violence during pregnancy. Associations were obtained by Poisson regression, crude and adjusted. Postpartum women whose partners consumed alcohol, refused to use condoms and who were not the child\'s biological parents had a higher prevalence of psychological violence during pregnancy. Physical violence was associated with puerperal women whose partners did not work and refused to use condoms. Postpartum women with partners who refused to use condoms had nine times more prevalence of experiencing sexual violence during pregnancy. Thus, prenatal care is an opportune moment to approach partners regarding health care and coping with violence. It is necessary to expand the reception of men by health services to intervene in the factors that favor violence during pregnancy.
