Psychiatric hospitalizations, community mental health centers and primary care coverage’s association in metropolitan regions of RJ and SP

Secondary data were collected (DATASUS and IBGE portal) and indicators calculated (CMHC and PC coverages, psychiatric beds and psychiatric hospitalization rates). Temporal trends were calculated for the indicators, as well as the association between CMHC and PC coverages and hospitalization rates. Results: it was observed reduction in psychiatric hospitalizations rates and psychiatric beds and increased in CMHC and PC coverages. The association of CMHC and PC coverages with psychiatric hospitalization rates were inverse and statistically significant. Conclusion: results confirmed the hypothesis of association between increasing CMHC and PC coverages with decrease in psychiatric hospitalization rates, in study’s localization and period.
