A obesidade, problema de saúde pública, é vista como “pânico moral” que inabilita o obeso à aceitação social. Para nutricionistas obesas, o paradoxo das premissas de sua profissão e seu estado de morbidade torna complexo o debate pelo conflito com a identidade profissional. O objetivo do estudo foi discutir significados do cuidado em saúde adotados por nutricionistas obesas de Salvador e compreender a experiência delas com a obesidade no cotidiano de vida. O estudo foi de abordagem qualitativa por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com oito narrativas sobre a experiência de ser nutricionista obesa, analisadas por meio da hermenêutica. A pesquisa revelou que ser obesa gera estigma ampliado para a nutricionista vista simultaneamente como incompetente no cuidado de si e na condição social de obesa. Estranhamento do corpo, exclusão social, estratégias de defesa na relação profissional-paciente, recurso desesperado à dietas “milagrosas” distantes do discurso científico e o corpo obeso como cárcere são algumas condições de sofrimento desveladas no cotidiano de trabalho. Conclui-se sobre a necessidade das instituições de saúde pública se apropriarem da dimensão do problema e estabelecer estratégias para a condição de nutricionista obesa, considerando que essa contradição ocorre em diversas profissões.

Obesity, public health problem, is seen as "moral panic" that disables the obese social acceptance. For obese nutritionists, the paradox of the premises of her profession and state of morbidity becomes complex debate for the conflict with the professional identity. The study objective was to discuss meanings of health care adopted by obese nutritionists Salvador and understand their experience with obesity in everyday life. The study was a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews with eight narratives about the experience of being obese dietitian analyzed by hermeneutic. The research revealed the nutritionist for enlarged view both as incompetent in self care and social condition of being overweight stigma that generates. Estrangement of the body, social exclusion, defense strategies in the professional-patient relationship, desperate to distant "miracle" diets of scientific discourse and obese body as a prison appeal are some conditions of suffering unveiled in daily work. We conclude on the need for public health institutions appropriate the scale of the problem and establish strategies for nutrition obese condition, considering that this contradiction occurs in various professions.
