0232/2020 - Violência contra idosos durante a pandemia de covid-19 no brasil: Contribuições para o seu enfrentamento Contributions to address violence against the elderly during the covid-19 pandemic in brazil

Abstract:
Social distance has been used by most state and local governments in Brazil as the main strategy for reducing the transmission speed of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID-19. However, social isolation has several negative repercussions, including the increase of family violence against children, adolescents, and women. Recently, violence against the elderly (VAE) during the pandemic is also calling attention. However, discussing possible strategies to prevent new cases of VAE during COVID-19 is still inexpressive in Brazil and other countries. This paper aims to offer theoretical elements and scientific evidence for a greater understanding of the situation, including elders\' vulnerabilities that increase the risk of being victims, motivations for increasing the number of cases of VAE, as well as possible strategies for handling the problem during this period.
