Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the place of birth of preterm infants with less than 34 gestational weeks at birth according to the type of neonatal care service in maternity units of the Rede Cegonha, as well as to estimate the maternal factors associated with the inappropriate place of birth for gestational age. National cross-sectional study carried out in 2016/2017 to evaluate health establishments with the action plan of Rede Cegonha. Information was analyzed from 303 puerperal women and their health establishments where childbirth occurred. Newborns were classified according to gestational age at birth (<30 and 30 to 33 weeks) and health services according to neonatal intensive care unit, intermediate care unit, without neonatal care. The Ministerial Ordinance no. 930/2012 was used to classify the birthplace as appropriate for the gestational age of the newborn. The prevalence of preterm birth at less than 30 weeks' gestation was 37.3 and between 30 and 33 weeks at 66.8. Birth in services not appropriate for the gestational age of the newborn occurred in 6.3%, with important regional and social differences
Despite the advances, there are still inequities in access to neonatal care for premature infants at Rede Cegonha.
