Basic Information
Launched at the end of 1996 and edited by the Brazilian Association of Collective Health/ABRASCO, the Revista Ciência & Saúde Coletiva is a scientific forum for discussions, debates, research presentations, showcase of new ideas and controversies in the area. Since inception, the Revista Ciência & Saúde Coletiva fully complies with the requirements of scientific publication periodicity and standardization, according to the rules set forth by the Vancouver Convention, which are usually applicable to medicine and public health.
As of 2011, the journal has been published monthly, totaling 12 annual issues. Each issue contains 10 to 12 thematic papers and approximately 20 papers on varied topics, opinions and reviews, comprising 30 papers, of which the first is always a debate on the thematic subject. In 2016, 374 papers were disseminated and over 1,000 researchers were able to show their investigations and share their reflections on collective health. The journal has witnessed the increased participation of national and international authors and growth of published papers through the years. The journal receives various collaborations from researchers from English, French and Spanish-speaking countries. Since 2014, the journal publishes the printed version in Portuguese and its online version in English and Portuguese in the SciELO database. The Ciência & Saúde Coletiva receives, on average, more than 3,500 papers per year.
The Revista Ciência & Saúde Coletiva is currently rated A3 by the QUALIS Journal Classification System of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and ABRASCO’s Board of Directors, the Forum of Postgraduate Coordinators and Editors are highly committed to achieving “A1” rating.
The impact factor (IF) has been rising and, according to the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR), Web of Science, in 2016, the IF of the Revista Ciência & Saúde Coletiva reached 0.780. In the last two years, it ranked first in Google Scholar among all Brazilian scientific journals in any area.
In 2011, the printed circulation of the Revista Ciência & Saúde Coletiva was reduced to just 300 copies in order to meet the demand from the editorial board, institutional members, authors, indexing bases and libraries in Brazil and abroad, since the journal is available online for readers and members of ABRASCO who have access to any full text at www.scielo.org and also at the home page www.cienciaesaudecoletiva.com.br, by accessing the main menu and clicking on Editions.
