Abstract:
It is important the study of the behaviors which precede suicide, not only by their association with suicide if not by their impact on quality of life. Considering the scarce of studies about suicide-related behaviors and quality of life, the aim of this study was to analyze the association between suicide-related behaviors and quality of life by gender among adolescent high school Mexican students. Is a cross-sectional study with 14-18 years age students. It was used the Youth Risk Behavior Survey translated to Spanish and the Youth Quality of Life Instrument Research Spanish version. It was applied nonparametric tests. Informed parents and students settlement consent was obtained. Ethics committee approved it. It was considered the Developmental-transactional model of youth suicidal behavior of Bridge et al. The separate analysis by gender shows for both sex, the suicide risk-behaviors associated with quality of life. Feeling down or hopeless behavior had the bigger effect sizes. The Regression models show that some suicide risk-behaviors increase the risk of lower quality of life yet after to adjust by covariates.
