Abstract:
Objective: To identify the scientific productions about the access and use of dental services by pregnant women.Methods: In order to produce this integrative literature review, a search was carried out on the online databases ofBVS and MEDLINE/PubMed databases. In the BVS database the descriptors were: “acesso aos serviços desaúde”, “saúde bucal” e “gestantes”, and in PubMed: “Health services accessibility”, “oral health” e “pregnant women”, all associated with each other by the Boolean operator AND.
Results: Five studies were found that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria and systematized into two empirical and co-related categories: expressive number of pregnant women who do not perform dental prenatal care and the importance of educational measures that signal the need to receive dental care during prenatal visits.
Conclusions: Further studies on the subject are required in order to support public health policies that contemplate this theme. Existing research shows low adherence to dental prenatal care and that the main factors observed as complicating the access and use of dental services were related to socioeconomic, cultural and educational aspects.
