Abstract:

Objective: to analyze the accreditation criteria of the studies that evaluated actions of health promotion and prevention of risk factors of Health Promoting Schools (HPSs). Methods: A systematic review was performed and conducted from the recommendations proposed in the guide Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) of articles that assessed the HPSs in the following databases: SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE, PubMed and Capes Portal. Results: from the analysis of the three axes for accreditation of HPS, three of the analyzed studies did not include all the criteria for being certified as HPS on the axes “Plannig Process” and “Developed Health Promotion Activities”. The schools cited in these studies present health education activities, prevention and/or health promotion, however, it is misleading to call themselves HPS. It was identified as the main challenges for implementation, development and continuity of the HPS, the intersectionality, insufficient financial and qualified human resources. Conclusion: the HPSs must be certified and submitted to a continuous evaluation process. It also suggests the inclusion of the topic health promotion into the curricula of teacher training courses and other education and health professionals.
