Abstract:

The Sub-Saharan Africa is the continent where it has the largest burden of disease in the world and is the only region of the planet is expected that the number of poor people will increase in coming decades. The countries of this region, to different degrees, experience slow process of population aging but at the same time, where the elderly population grows in absolute numbers. From literature review aimed to highlight the social and demographic situation in which older people live in sub-Saharan region and the main challenges that require local governments to overcome the complex problems posed to the whole society. It was found that public policies focused on this segment of the population in the region does not represent a priority and, therefore, are unlikely in the current agenda of international cooperation.
