Abstract:

The present research assessed the effectiveness of interdisciplinary interventions involving physicians, pharmacists and nutritionists, aimed to the promotion of the Rational Use of Drugs. It is about a study of prospective and analytical matter, with a population of elderly female, where the effectiveness of the intervention was assessed according to indicators of Rational Use of Drugs preconized by the World Health Organization. Statistical analysis was performed using the t test or the one-way ANOVA for discrete variables, as well as the chi-square test for categorical analyses. After the intervention, an average reduction in drug consumption was observed in comparison to the both consultations performed prior to the intervention (p=0.001). The drugs used in the cardiovascular therapeutic were the most consumed, what is in agreement to the elderly self-referred diseases. It was possible to verify that interdisciplinary intervention in the elderly was able to improve rational drug use indicators, especially those related to the practice of prescription.
