Abstract:

This paper aims to analyse the quality of prescribing indicators proposed in 1993 by World Health Organization and suggest new ones, in function of the new profile of population sickness. A cross-sectional study was realized, doing personal interview and prescription analysis of 320 Family Health Strategy users, located on a brasilian city from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Those users were recruited by the non probabilistic consecutive sampling method. Considering the World Health Oragnization’s quality of prescribing indicators, the prescriptions can be considered adequated. However, the analysis of those indicators shows that, nowadays, they can be inapropriate. Therefore, new indicators were developed. Using new indicators proposed, simple and with an easy quantification, it was possible to notice the problems in the prescribing in order to guide a forecoming action.
Key words: prescribing; quality of prescribing indicators; primary care.
