Abstract:

This article aims to characterize the risks related to pesticides use in dairy production, focusing on legal, health and workers’ risk perception aspects. It is based on methodological articulation that included: a) systematic review of the literature about the research object; b) analysis of related legislation (veterinary products and pesticides); c) hazard identification regarding the use of veterinary products formulated based on pesticides active ingredients; d) and risk perception analysis of a dairy production workers group. Results indicate a situation of particular interest to Public Health. Regarding dairy production workers, the invisibility of risks associated with veterinary use pesticides management, increases their exposure is related and led to several health problems, particularly in women. This same invisibility leads to a neglect of the prohibition period (period between the use of pesticides and the consumption of the product). Part of the problem may be associated with the non-classification of veterinary use pesticides as ‘pesticides’ (they are classified as veterinary products), which reinforces the importance and the urgency of the subject.
