Abstract:

The aim of this paper was to analyze the prevalence of the type of delivery and their associated factors in Brazilian women of childbearing age studied in the last Demographic and Health National Survey (DHNS). The study is a DHNS cross-sectional analysis national domicile-based, which had as its main purpose to find out the characteristics of the female population of child-bearing age and the ones of children under 5 years old. The type of delivery prevalence was described according to the following exposition variables: Brazilian macro-regions, situation of residence, age, skin color, nutritional status, education, prenatal health service and place of delivery. The statistical significance (p<0,05) was evaluated through the qui-square test. The population studied consisted of 6.125 women. It was observed that 42,9% of the women had a caesarean section. The prevalence of caesarean section was significantly smaller, regardless macro-regions, situation of residence, age, skin color, nutritional status, prenatal health service and place of delivery. It was evident tough the need of a following investigation about the factors which promote the increase of caesarean section in Brazil, in order to change this situation once the caesarean section can lead to a series of health complications for both the mothers and their children.
