We evaluated weight and stature used for calculate z score height/age(HAZ) and the body mass index(BMIZ) of children. Results: LBW children presented short stature 6.2%, overweight 12.3% and obesity 8.6%.There was association between short stature in LBW children and maternal nutritional status. Maternal short stature was associated with an increased likelihood of LBW children having short stature at school age(OR=6.94; 95% CI=2.34–20.6). The male gender and current maternal overweight/obesity were associated with overweight/obesity in children (male gender:OR=1.77; 95%CI=1.06–2.95 and maternal overweight/obesity:OR=2.40; 95% CI =1.44–4.01). Conclusion:A fifth of children with low birth weight were overweight. In this population, overweight/obesity was associated with current maternal nutritional status and male sex; short stature associated with maternal stature.
