Abstract:

Dengue transmission in East-Timor has been known since 2005, but there is no program for monitoring and control of the Aedes aegypti mosquito in this country. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the baited ovitrap as a possible tool to monitor the arbovirus vector: Dengue (DENV), Chikungunya (CHIKV) and Zika (ZIKV). The study was carried out in the city of Dili, capital of East-Timor, between epidemiological weeks 32 (02/08) to 48 (02/12) of 2016. The total of 70 oviposition traps were installed in residences scattered throughout fifteen streets, of four Administrative Posts (neighborhoods) of the city. The following were used as entomological indicators: Ovitrap Positivity Indice (OPI), Vector Density Indice (VDI) and Eggs Density Indice (EDI). During the experiment 158.904 eggs were collected, and 99.317. The OPI showed that all areas of study had 98 to 100% of traps containing Aedes spp. The indicators ODI and OPI are positively correlated significantly with the temperature. Therefore, the oviposition trap is a tool that can integrate the actions of a monitoring and control program of Aedes spp in East-Timor.
