Abstract:

The health beliefs system has influence above the diabetes treatment. The compliance to the nutrition therapy is one of the biggest challenges needed. The purpose of this qualitative approach study was to analyze the beliefs of type 2 diabetic people about nutrition therapy and its influence on the compliance to that. The participants of the study were nine patients of a qualified basic health unit. The proceeding involved blood exam to check the glicada hemoglobin, fulfillment of a form, taped interview (semi-structured) and consult to the patient dossier. The analysis of the speeches was made using the thematic categories of Bardin (2000), and the models of Rokeach (1981) and Rosenstock (1974). All participants showed glicemic results behind 7%, what shows that is difficult to them to control their glicemic levels, possible because of the absence of compliance. After the analysis of the speeches, two thematic categories were identified: “Received recommendation about feeding” and Nutritional therapy compliance”. Both categories showed authority beliefs and consensus zero, and barriers to the nutritional therapy, witch the participants see as a restrictive imposition. Those beliefs have negative influence above the compliance, and so, they have to be considered on the population health attention.
