Abstract:

The “Bolsa Família” Program (BFP) is a family conditional - based on offspring education and health criteria - income transfer program, being Brazil’s main strategy to deal with extreme poverty, and social inequality. To meet the educational criteria, offspring of the beneficiary family are required to obtain school enrollment and minimum attendance rates. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review to assess the outcomes (effects and impact) of the BFP in educational indicators among the beneficiaries. The MEDLINE, LILACS, EBSCO, Econstor, Science Direct and Web of Knowledge databases were searched, and the methodological quality of the included articles was evaluated. Of 2,391 identified studies, 12 were ed. There was evidence that BFP had positive outcomes in educational indicators for female gender and for the Northern Brazil. As a result, it was showed that BFP had no impact in proficiency and academic performance but significant association with dropout rates and school attendance.
