Abstract:

The article discusses the interface between gender, social classes and (bio)technologies aimed at improving body aesthetics. Dialoguing with gender studies, it investigates how these (bio)technologies act in the production of contemporary bodies and femininities in different social groups, based on ethnographic research carried out in circuits these interventions take place. The uses, meanings and moralities attributed to them are analyzed, showing how they manufacture conventions that are simultaneously aesthetic, moral, and bodily of femininity, in a process also crossed by distinctions and class belonging.
