Abstract:

Cross-sectional study that evaluated the results and the refusal to test breathalyzer between drivers intercepted by Operation Dry Law in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and Baixada Fluminense. Performed based on data provided by the State Government which were collected during drivers call intercepted between December 2013 and January 2014. There were descriptive analysis of the sample and of association between the variables gender, age and approach place with refusal and the result of the breathalyzer test using a logistic regression model. Of 4756 (100%) intercepted drivers, 59 (1.2%) had positive breathalyzer test and 229 (4.8%) refused it. Only the approach of local variable statistically significant with greater chances of positive (OR=4.01) and refusal to test (OR=5.14) between the intercepted drivers in the Baixada Fluminense. Systematic monitoring actions taken by Operation Prohibition occurring for some time in the capital appear to positively influence the behavior of drinking and driving behaviors of drivers.
