Abstract:

ABSTRACT

Aim: To compare the average of burden of children and adolescents caregivers users of Psychosocial Care Center children and youth (CAPSi, acronym in Portuguese) of Pelotas-Brazil in relation to mental health of children and adolescents and the caregiver’s own. Method: Cross-sectional study with the primary caregiver of users CAPSi. The burden caregiver was evaluated through the scale Zarit Burden Interview and the mental health problems of users through the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). To verify the common mental disorders of caregivers, it was used a Self-Report Questionnaire (SRQ-20). It was used t-test and ANOVA to data analysis. Results: The average overhead were significantly higher in caregivers of users with conduct problems (p=0.000), hyperactivity (p=0.001) and with relationship problems with peers (p=0.001). The caregiver burden was also significantly larger among those classified as possible cases of common mental disorders (p=0.000), among women caregivers (p=0.032) and those who have had problems in the justice and/or Guardianship Council involving the user (p=0.039). Conclusion: It is important the work for caregivers to improve their quality of care and life.
