Abstract:

This study aimed to evaluate which health system, the Family Health Strategy (FHS) or traditional model established in the Primary Health Units (PHU) has greater effectiveness in relation to oral health needs of the population of the city of Marilia / SP during the period 2007 to 2009. This is a retrospective ecological study with a stratified random sample of 50% of the universe of the study area for the 12 Basic Health Units (BHU) and 37% of the 29 Family Health Units (FHU) in the municipality, being randomly selected 6 BHU and 11 FHS, respectively. The data were collected through the management reporting of information systems, SIAB and Assessment Report on Oral Health. To analyze the resolution of different systems of health care, exploratory data analysis and Student t test were performed. It was observed that the coefficients relating to Initial Dental Treatment were not statistically different but the coefficient Completed Initial Treatment for population greater than two years, there values were 16.74 for the model FHS and 6.93 for model BHU, and 40.97% of resolution on BHU compared to 83.56% on FHS (p<0.05). The FHS model presented better resoluteness compared to the BHU model.
