Abstract:

This article aims to bring to the attention of readers and potential authors of the wider problem experienced by the scientific editors of the journals in the Public Health field.
The article discusses some critical aspects related to scientific publications highlighting the expectations of authors, readers , editors and publishers ; and presenting results of empirical research on the publishing predictors; forms of, and quality of peer review; formal characteristics of the publishing process; the working process of two Public Health national magazines and a foreigner one; ethical issues involving authors and editors; particular editorial difficulties of Brazilian Public Health journals and the future of the publications in the open access model.
