Abstract:

Severalstudiesindicatethat in Brazil male mortalityofchildrenishigherthanthefemale. Recentstudieshavealsoshown a reduction in the male infantmortality in thelastyears. However, isunknownaboutwhatfactors are associatedwiththisphenomenon. How male infants are generally more fragile, onehypothesisisthatan upgrade in thefinancelevelsandpreandpostnatalhealthcarehave more impactonreducing male infantmortality. Therefore, theobjectiveofthisarticlewasanalyzedhowthesefactorsaffectinfantmortality in Brazil. Totheestimatedmodel, wasutilizedBrazilianstates data1996 to 2014. The resultsindicatethattheaverageincome, lowbirthweight, thenumberofprenatalconsultationsandthefertility rate, are importantfactorsassociatedwithinfantmortality in the country. In general, theimpactofthesevariablesisbigger in the male childrenmortality, showingthatthebiggerfragilityofthesechildrenrequiresgreaterparentscareandhealthauthorities. In addition, otherstudiescananalyzetheimportanceofbreastfeedingoninfantmortalityandgender in Brazil, in ordertoverifytheimpactofbreastfeedingonreducinginfantdeaths.
